The "Blooming Beautiful" Project
Blooming Beautiful is a series of mixed-media works on paper and canvas exploring flora through memory rather than representation.
Blooming Beautiful is a series of mixed-media works on paper developed through an ongoing engagement with flora and botanicals native to the land I live on. Rather than functioning as botanical studies or representational prints, these works operate through memory and abstraction.
The forms that emerge are not specific plants, but remnants, silhouettes held in the body and mind rather than observed directly. Shape, rhythm, and colour replace detail, allowing the work to hover between recognition and recall. What remains is an impression of growth, structure, and presence, rather than a fixed image.
Working in mixed media allows surfaces to be built through layering and restraint. Pattern, flat colour, and simplified form coexist, creating a visual language that feels both anchored and speculative. The works acknowledge landscape not as something to be depicted, but as something lived with over time.
Blooming Beautiful reflects an attentiveness to plants, how familiarity softens into memory, and how repeated encounters with the same environment gradually distil into visual shorthand. The project sits within the wider practice as a meditation on observation, belonging, and the quiet persistence of natural forms.
Some of these images made their way into the 2025 Incognito Art Show. Maybe you now are the proud owner of one of these original pieces.
