“Afloat After Dark”
Original mixed-media artwork by Marie-Louise Bahnson
This small abstract work recalls being on a boat at night: the movement of water beneath you, the pull of the tide and light breaking into shifting reflections across a dark surface.
Deep blues, teal marks and wavering white lines suggest water in constant motion. An angular yellow fragment and touches of gold bring moments of brightness into the composition, evoking the way reflected light briefly gathers before slipping away.
Created during Friday Play Day, the artist’s weekly experimental practice, this piece uses found and recycled materials alongside supplies already in the studio. Torn edges, layered fragments and spontaneous marks give physical form to a fleeting experience.
The artwork is raised above a white backing board within a floating oak frame, allowing its textured surface and handmade edges to remain visible.
