The Ranges Remember Rain TRIPTYCH is an abstract recollection of Ormiston Gorge in the West MacDonnell Ranges of Central Australia—a place of ancient rock formations, carved canyons, desert flowers and watercourses that weave through the landscape.
Rather than describing the gorge as a complete image, the painting reconstructs its memory through fragments. Deep reds, burgundies and ochres recall the immense rock faces, while pale washes and traces of blue suggest water moving quietly through the gorge. Scattered marks evoke the unexpected bursts of wildflowers that emerge across the desert after rain.
Loose, retraced lines travel through the composition like pathways, waterways and remembered journeys. Together, they hold the feeling of a landscape shaped over immense stretches of time—seemingly still, yet continually altered by water, weather and return.
